Message in a bottle

Kia Ora readers, today for wananga work we started doing some creative writing about a message in the bottle. Since our teacher is not feeling so today we have to write a story about the bottle, or you could write the letter, or maybe you can write about the person who wrote the letter or maybe the person who found it. e have tons of choices to pick from, and I thought of writing about me writing the letter for my future self. I got the idea from the teacher, so I thought why not write about it. My story starts with my main character Amelia cleaning her room because they need to move house in about a week. When she was cleaning her room, she slipped because she accidentally stepped on the dusty old bottle she found on her cabinet. When were writing the story, we have to include where the bottle been found, who found it, who wrote the letter, when was it written and what does the letter says?

I was really proud of my story even though it's just a short one, I was happy that I get to include all of the things I needed to. What I like about creative writing, is that no one is wrong.

Day 4/5 - Tongan Language Week

Hello everybody, this will be the last task around the Tongan Language week. This is probably one of my favorite activities since I get to draw some patterns for our day 4 activity. Tonga kupesi ( kupesi means the name given to design a tapa cloth), we need to search the pattern in google and have a go at drawing it I was so excited to do it. And I'm satisfied with the outcome of my art, and I have enjoyed doing this. Furthermore, let's move on to our last activity for day 5 for this one.  I have learned another thing about Tonga, and that is everyone is allowed to work or go out every Sunday. They only do three things and that is, they go to church, eat and sleep. So for the task, we have to write persuasive writing, to convince the government why they should remove this type of law and what are my argument be?

Tongan Language Week - Day 1

Malo e lelei, this week we are learning more about the history of Tonga. For this new topic we have new things to research from, there are 5 different activities we can do. On the first day of learning from their history, well we have to research the meaning behind each quarter in the Coat of Arms of Tonga designed in 1875. I was amazed when I learned about the meaning behind it, and also even learn some new words by re-reading the text all over again.

Fun fact: Tonga is the only kingdom in the Pacific to have a monarchy :)

In 1875, with the constitution created, the arms of Tonga (ko e Sila 'o Tonga) were developed.

The three swords represent the king of Tonga, particularly the Tu'i Tonga, Tu'i Ha'atakalaua, and the current Tu'i kanokupolu. Under King Siaosi Tupou I Tonga was united, who then formed the first formal government and also organized the arms coat. The olive branch dove symbolizes God's willingness to rule forever in Tonga (the dove and olive branch are taken from the story of Noah and the Great Flood in the Bible).

The three stars represent Tonga's principal island groups, Tongatapu, Vava'u, and Ha'apai. The Crown represents Tonga's king, the sovereign monarchy. The bottom of the scroll says, 'God and Tonga are my heritage,' Ko e Tonga Mo Tonga Hoku, Tofi Non, in Tongan.

Design technology

For this task, there will be no research task because it's all about designing. We were given three different topics to choose from such as design digital, design engineering, and last but not least design construction. I checked each of them and design engineering caught my attention, I really find it interesting and also fun to do. Because it's all about testing our thinking with hands-on materials found in our house, the activity that I choose to do was to make paper rockets. I picked it because I remember last time when we were at Science and we also have to make the same thing but with different materials. When I was making one of these paper rockets, I had a hard time putting the fins on the side but I still manage to do it. I was really happy that it worked, but I wasn't happy with how it looks.

Materials: Paper, a scissor, straw, and a tape

Lockdown activity ( South Korea )

Hello everyone, I have finished another topic that is based on around the world. For the first one, I planned on interviewing one person in my family, now I have to choose another topic. This topic is kinda similar to the first one because the task was to research a popular tourist attraction from your "country of study" and create a poster to advertise the attraction. So I thought why not look at a different country, so I picked South Korea since tons of teenagers or adults really wanted to visit this country because of the view, food, and people. Most famous celebrities came from this country and are also one of my favorite country that I wanted to visit in the future with my whole family. When I was looking at some tourist attractions, I was amazed at how some temples and houses look way different from the houses here in New Zealand. So here is my poster, hope you enjoy it.

Writing - Lockdown 2.0

Kumusta everyone, today I have chosen another task around our wananga activities. In this blog, I will be combining two of my work, around writing. The first task was to write only a 100-word challenge using the prompt lock-down 2.0, and then the other task was creative writing we have to write a short story based on one of the given pictures. In the first task, it was not that difficult to do because I only have to write 100 words, the only thing is that I keep forgetting about the limit so I have to re-read everything. And always keep an eye on how many words I have written, so when I go overboard I will have to remove another word and try to re-write the sentence to make it clear and understandable.

For my second task, I used the second picture. Because for me it gives me the vibe of one of the anime movies. I have watched it, and it was actually my favorite one so I used it as my inspiration. It took me a long time to think of a different name and shorten the movie out. It took me a long time to do it, and this time I actually find it quite difficult but I have finished it. Writing is actually quite fun, it helps me build another imagination and put me in a different world...

Well-being

Kia Ora, I have another task around the wananga work that was set for us. This task is all about our well-being, it has 5 questions and we have to write about what we do with that situation. I used google docs, and play around with it I also remember when one of my yr 9 teachers taught us how to present google docs in a different way. So I looked back on one of our lessons that has the instruction and steps. I used her ways of using the doc, instead of just presenting it plain.

Our well-being is really important because it helps us to be healthier, and achieve what we want for life. For me, it is defined as being comfortable, happy, and productive and it also means we can avoid discomfort and stress. It is one of the good things for our growth.

Music of the Pacific

In this task, we have to look around the music of the Pacific. This includes Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, New Caledonia, and lastly Tahiti. We are given 4 different questions so basically, we have to do another research, and I have chosen to present them in a slide show. Since it was easier, to edit, and it didn't take me a long time to research it. I have learned a lot of things that I actually didn't know about them, especially when it comes to their flag.  I was shocked at some of them since I haven't seen them, but I love the fact every flag was so colorful. I also love the fact that each of this country, their place was clean and full of friendly people and also beautiful nature. I've enjoyed doing this since some of my friends come from one of these places. I have a hard time looking for some answers since sometimes some random things pop out and it will give me a different answer.

Famous Musicians

Hola everyone, today I will be sharing with you what I have done around task 3 which is about listening to new music. The slideshow shows 15 different famous musicians that paved the way in their genres, our task was to listen to one song from each of them, and it also asks if there were any of them I would listen to more. I also need to find one of my favorite songs from each artist. When I was listening to these songs, I actually regret not listening to them. I remember one time when my mum is listening to the Beatles, I asked her to stop listening to those types of music it was because I know nothing about them. But now I'm starting to like this type of music. After listening to a few of the songs, when I came across this American cellist. Named Yo-yo Ma, and when I listened to one of his songs I actually liked it out of all the other songs. Why? Because I'm actually a type of person who likes calm music, and every time I'm listening to it and I'm doing my work. I will be more focused and I would finish my work in no time. For now, I would love to listen to him playing his cello while doing chores or maybe doing my work...

Here is my presentation.

Origami - Flower Base

Magandang gabi/umaga everyone, I'm super excited to share with u guys what's the purpose of this blog post. Well, I will be sharing with you what I did for this task, we have to watch a youtube clip and carefully teach me how to create a piece of origami. I have searched tons and tons of ideas of how to create one, but none of them seems easy. To be honest, I'm not good at creating this type of thing, because I'm not really a crafty person. But I still tried making one, and I think Kinda did a good job at following the instructions. I have thought of why not make a flower base, I wanted to create something cute and also useful. I choose to make a flower base, just to put in my room but there's a twist instead of putting flowers I wanted to put all of my pencils, markers, and stuff in it since they're all over on my study table.

I had tons of fun creating this, even though I did struggle a lot so what I did was I changed the speed of the video, to 0.75 (slow) so that I can understand it more easily. But I have to redo it over again, but I'm still proud that I did it by myself by just watching a youtube clip. I'm happy with how it turns out because now my table is not that messy anymore.

Garden sculpture

Garden sculpture, for this task we have to make our own garden sculpture by finding any object outside the house. I tried searching for some ideas, and it took me a long time and brainstorm how to create my own one. Then I realized that I can recycle stuff, such as the cap of the bottle, and some old wood. My idea was to cut out some piece of wood, into any shape like a bird, flower, boat, etc. Then just put the bottle cap all over it, and I'm thinking of using a metal nail instead of super glue. In my opinion, I think it wouldn't stick that long if I use glue, and sometimes it dries really slow.

I actually had fun doing this task, because I tried drawing what I wanted it to look like when I make this sculpture. I feel like drawing is the easiest way to explain something, so I tried my best to make it look similar to the one in my head.
