Crazy Crystals...

Crazy Crystals.

Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals.

Borax
Materials:
  1. A container - to put your ingredients
  2. A spoon - to mix your ingredients
  3. A paper - to put your name so the teacher know that is yours.
  4. A pen - to write with
  5. A borax
  6. Pipe cleaners
  7. Peg -to clip your pipes.
  8. A water

Procedure:
Step 1: Grab a container ( it was optional you can use a cup or a bowl just to put the borax and the hot water.
Step 2: Put 8 tablespoon of borax.
Step 2: Pour a warm liquid/water into your container and mix them very well.
Step 3: After you put your warm liquid/ water get a pipes ( it was compulsory but you need 3 pipes ).
Step 4: When you have your pipes shape it to a star.
Step 5:If you shape it into a star get a peg and clip the star that you make it.
Step 6: If you have done all of the step go put the peg on the top of the container and push it down until it touch the borax.

Sugar
Materials:
  1. A container - to put the sugar and the warm water.
  2. A spoon - to mix the sugar and the water.
  3. A pen- to write the name of the crystal that you made.
  4. A sugar
  5. A warm water
  6. 1 straight pipe cleaners
  7. 1 peg - to put your pipe cleaners

  Procedure:
Step 1: Get a container or a cup to put your ingredients.
Step 2: Grab a spoon to mix your ingredients well.
Step 3: Place half a cup of amount of the sugar and put it into the container.
Step 4: When you’ve put the sugar into the container go get a water and pour it to the container that you used.
Step 5: Then when the two ingredients are in the container you can mix them properly.
Step 6: Then grab a 1 pipe, and a peg then put the pipe to the peg.
Step 7: When all the things are done put the peg inside of the container and push it until it touch the sugar and the water.

Salt
Materials:
  1. A container or a cup.
  2. A spoon to mix the materials.
  3. A pen
  4. A peg
  5. A pipe
  6. A Salt
  7. A warm water

Procedure:
Step 1: Get a container or a cup to put your ingredients.
Step 2: Grab a spoon to mix your ingredients well.
Step 3: Place 3 tablespoon of the salt into your container.
Step 4: When you’ve put the salt into the container go get a water and pour it to the container that you used.
Step 5: Then when the two ingredients are in the container you can mix them properly until it dissolve.
Step 6: Then grab a 1 pipe, and a peg then clip the pipe to the peg.
Step 7: When all the things are done put the peg inside of the container and push it until it touch the sugar and the water

What crystals worked out best and why?:

I think the Borax work better and the other doesn’t have any crystals in it.The borax crystals worked the best it was also common for it to to work in both classes we mixed the the borax well and when I was at home I tried to compare both one with cold water and the other with hot water.  With comparing them both I learnt that hot water can hold borax together better than cold water with a final result making “borax crystals”. I also tried researching more about, I found out why hot water was the best temperature to use with borax to make crystals. It’s because heated water molecules move farther apart making more room for the borax to dissolve making borax crystals. Our other slightly improved crystals were the salt crystals it was slightly crumbly and on the pipe cleaner there was slightly any crystals on it but we looked closer we found out that there were still a bit of crystals. At first the water is hot but that water is only hot to dissolve the salt after when the hot water starts to cool down. Making the conditions very unstable, So the dissolved salt will leave the water and cling on to the pipe cleaner or the string. As the water evaporates the salt stays behind making it way more unstable causing the crystals to grow bigger.
