In our session for Music the first thing that we did is to do some fun quiz that is based on Instrumental we just have to look at the picture and listen to the Instrumental it was doing that because I get to learn other Instrumental that I don't even know. The Second thing that we did is we talk about Musician Biography and Band Biography but only if they are form New Zealand that's the topic that we are looking at for this session, after we have share our idea we did a activity that based on the Biography thingy. On that Biography it has included some question like Name, Birth Name, Favourite Song, Awards Won and Genre and etc, but that's just only for the Solo Artist because we have to to answer 2 paper that have some similar question but the differences is that if it's a band it will ask you the members of the group and the date formed. I pick Lorde and The Exponents band I pick them because when I was in the primary we already look at Lorde and I also know some of her song also the band. I had fun doing this activity because I learn a lot about them and it kinda help me to know more about the New Zealand bands or soloist.
Here is the slide show that I make that will show you how to we make this Music Biography.
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 8 and in 2021 I will be a year 9. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Instrumental Music
Today for our Music lesson we are learning about different instrumental families like example the string family, orchestra, percussion, woodwind and the brass family, also the teacher show us the definition of the different families and also some videos of the different members of the family. After we have done watching the videos and learning the definition we have to make a presentation that will include the definition but only in our own words, that's why we need to listen to the teacher properly.
Also at the last part of the slide there's a Music Biography thingy just like what we did last time it also included the name and challenges in their life. It was really fun hope you like it.

Maori - Hangi
Yesterday in our Maori class we make a presentation that show how to make hangi but the first thing that we did is we watch a video that show some Maori people how to make the hangi in real life, but if you are going to make the hangi as a presentation you can work with someone or you can work individual. So me and Skyler my friend decided to make the hangi presentation together, I have so much fun making it with Skyler because we work together pretty well that help us to finish it in time so I'm very proud of my group.

Doing this activity was really fun because I learn a lot of things like how to make it step by step and why is it very important to Maori culture and some of the History of Hangi. If someone ask me if I would like to try it? I will say No because it will take a lot of time to cook like I have to wait for 3 to 4 hours and also it's because you will loose some patient waiting for it to cook and also there's a lot of step that you have to follow. But after all it was really fun.
If you are not sure what is hangi well is a traditional Maori style of cooking for them that has been used for hundreds of years but it's till use throughout New Zealand because making hangi is very spiritual for the Maori people and they are inspired by the nature and it was also link to Matariki because Maori people make it during Niu la ( New year ) and after they are all cooked they offered to the spirits, why because each kai ( food / fruits ) they thought that it was a gift form Tangaroa ( the god of the sea ) and the Tane Mahuta ( god of the forest ), and they only take some food from the land and the sea but before they took some food they always pray for thanking the nature. That's how Maori culture work if you are not really sure about it.
How to make Hangi?

Cool To be Kind - All Blacks Activity!
For our Week 5 activity in our Cool to be kind project we are looking about " All Blacks " team if you don't know them they are the rugby team who compete to other countries and also represent the New Zealand. The first session that we did for this project we look and talk about what happen to "All Blacks" team and also the teacher ash what we know about them and what happen in the news, there's a lot of ideas that the other people know and share it to us and to the teacher.
When we're done looking about it and talk about it we did a activity that is based on the topic, the teacher made us a template and in that template there's three things that you need to answer it your own words such us like " What you know about them" and other things, but if you are going to write something it need to have three categories that will help you work well and also you need to have 4 points for each box so you can go to and eat your morning tea. Doing this thing was really fun and it kinda help me to know more about "All Blacks ".

Instrumental Industries!
Today we have our first session of our Music and our teacher for this term was Mrs Hastie and our form teacher Mrs Allan- Fletcher, and we are also with the other class which is Whaea Jo class. I was really excited and happy to learn other things and I think that time that I was in a green/yellow zone ( I forget what is the meaning why they called it like that) , because every Monday we always have to be in a circle with the whole class and you can talk about how you feel about today and if we you a problem you can share it to the other people and they will give you some helpful feedback to make you feel great and also if you feel like your very unhappy you will be in a blue zone because the teacher said that if you are in a blue zone you don't like going to school or something, and yellow and red zone is also part of it and the meaning of those zone is like when you feel very angry and upset of someone or something you are in the red zone but if you think you are in the yellow zone that means that you are very excited of something because maybe there are activity that is going to happen in your school ,and I think that's why I taught that I was in the yellow/green zone.
By the way the first thing that we did in out Music lesson we brainstorm some question about what is music, like what types of music do you like to listen to and other things, but the first thing that we did was to find a group and you can only have 4 people in your group so me and my friends that we can work together as a team, after that we answer those question and the teacher ask every group to tell or share their answer so that the teacher can put something on the slide so we can look what the other people think. After we have doing that discussion we watch some videos that show different types of music like the choir, orchestra,etc..
For our the last period we talk about Ukulele like what do you think about the Ukulele, and also what do you know about the Ukulele such as where does it came from and some other things, and we also watch some group of people performing in the stage using the ukulele, we also look some other types of Ukulele like Soprano, Concert, Tenor, Baritone. We also look and talk about parts of the Ukulele those are the topics that we are kinda focusing on today first Hurumanu. Learning those discussion was really fun and we also get to do some activity like we have to think of the Title and one group say the " Instrumental Industries" and there are also some good ideas but most of the people pick this one which I think it's also good and when we have the title for this Hurumanu we design it in our own you can draw in your exercise book or you can use your Chromebook to design it but you can do whatever you want but it does need to be base on the topic that we just discuss like you can put like the eight note or single bar note but it your choice,we also have to put the Glossary for our Glossary we put the picture of the Ukulele and we also included the names of different parts of the Ukulele.
I think for this session I have fun because I learn other things and I have fun doing some activities and other stuff and I can wait to learn more.

Hurumanu: Climate Change Issues
My Investigation
Aim: To look at how I can prevent climate change in the future.
1. Complete the activity 'Ecological Handprint'2. Complete the activity 'Carbon Footprint'.
3. Write down your 10 changes to climate change below. Using ideas from the Ecological Hand print and Carbon Footprint list 10 changes that you can make to stop Climate change?
- Try to eat more vegetable and not always eat meat.
- Try to recycle and composting more and not always throw the waste in the garbage.
- I should check the labels and try to buy healthy food because when I'm at the grocery store I just took stuff and didn't check were the food came from.
- I should try to talk to my parents about protecting the environment.
- I should try planting and growing vegetable or fruits instead of buying them in the store.
- Maybe when I saw a rubbish laying on the ground I should pick them and throw them away.
- I should take a shower quickly to save more water in the house.
- I should try to unplug the things that I don't need to so I can save more energy.
- When we go to the shopping as the whole family I want to tell my parents think about it first before getting them.
- instead of throwing my organics straight into the green bin i can put it in my garden.

What is the atmosphere called?
a Waste Dump.
What is the last statement the reporter made?
We know what we need to do, we have got the technology. What we lack is the
is the political will.
What places will be effected?
The places that would be affected is the various places like it will be flooded.
The places that would be affected is the various places like it will be flooded.
What else do we need to think about?
The people that need to build or developing a new area or house that it was not near to a sea because that can cause flooding and break their house.
What other places around NZ will be affected?
The pacific island will be affected badly.
What does this do to our drinking water?
It makes more salty and that's bad for health.
What are the main concerns?
- Coastal flooding
- Coastal erosion
What can we do?
- Use public transport like use bicycle or walk more.
- Build a house that use more and less energy.
- Buy a car that use less energy/oil.
What is the one, silver bullet solution?
No one
No one
What is the mix of things we need to start doing?
- Using Renewable
- Use solar heating
- Get away on the car that use to much fossil fuel.
What are 3 others you can think of?
- I turn off the lights when I'm going out
- Use energy wisely like save money and other stuff.
- Take a shower quickly to save more water.
My Investigation
Where does our food come from?
- Choose your favourite food.
Kimchi Fried Rice
Picture:
On your blog answer the following questions.
- Where does the food come from (e.g. is it from another province or country, was it purchased or made locally)?
It came from South Korea
- How many kilometers away did the food travel to get to you?
In my research it was 9,946 kilometers in New Zealand.
- What are the main ingredients?
- You need Oil
- A rice
- Peas,Carrots, Garlic/Ginger
- Soy sauce, Chili paste
- An Eggs
- Of course a jar of Kimchi
- How is the food packaged?
Kimchi fried rice can find in a store but sometimes you can make it by yourself, and also I think that you can't put it on a package because you can easily make it at home, but I think in Korea they put it on a box and inside of the box there are different ingredients but I think there's no rice inside on it.
- What resources do you need to produce this food item (e.g. land, water, oil, food, etc.)?
The resources that you need was Oil, Water and Fire.
- Would this item have been processed?
- No because all of the ingredients for the kimchi fried rice can be added freshly.
- Is there anything unique or significant about the food item (e.g. fair-trade, local)?
- It was well know in Korea and other restaurant because it made primarily with kimchi and a rice and also some fresh vegetable, and I think it was popular dish in Korea because it can get along with other food and it will taste delicious when you eat it.
- What else do you notice about this food that affects its climate friendliness?
- Making this food you need some gas to boil, and also an egg to make it more delicious and fancy but after all I think it was climate- friendly.
- Do you think this food is climate friendly (Circle)? YES NO
- Why?
- If no, what would be a better alternative?

Hurumanu - Solar Energy
Solar Energy
Catching the sun movie
Materials:
- Cups x4
- Water
- Tin foil
- 2 sheets of white paper
- 1 sheet of black paper
- Thermometer
- 1 large cup
Steps
- The first thing you need to do was to get all of the materials that you need and put them down on your table.
- When you have all of the materials go and fill all of the small cups with cold water don't put a lot of water and leave a space.
- After that place a large cup and put it to one of the cup that you have to make it look like a greenhouse.
- When you've done put 1 cup to a white paper, and the second cup that has a large a cup is also put to white paper, the third cup has to be put to a black paper and the last cup is with the tin foil.
- Go get a heat lamp and leave all the cups but make sure that the heat lamp has a light on it.
- After that wait at least 15 minutes and after that measure it with a thermometer but every 15 minutes.
Which surface conducts / attracts the most heat?

Findings:
In my opinion I think that we succeed but some of our temperatures went up and down which confused us but in our opinion maybe it was because we were kinda close to the door, but the really warmest cup was the tin foil because of the light that is reflecting on the foil and also it was near the heat lamp that's why it was really warm but in a few second when we turn off the heat lamp the cup that is on the tin foil slowly turning to a cold water again.
Conclusion:
Me and my group have fun doing it and I'm really proud of my group because they try their best doing it. When me and my group we're doing the measure thing was kinda confusing because when we do it some of them are going higher but some of them are getting lower and also I think we succeed because we are almost near at the door and there's a light at the top of the surface which is good but some of the water doesn't change because some of the cups are not near at the heat lamp and I think that's why it doesn't change at all, but after all it was fun and I learn a lot of things.
Hurumanu - Weather

Wind speed - Making an anemometer.
MATERIALS
- You need 4 cups
- You need to have 2 straw, and another 2 stick.
- You need to get sale tape
- Also one pencil that has rubber in the end of it.
- Also you need a pin.
STEPS
- The first thing you need to do was to was to get the 4 cups from the teacher because that's make's the project move.
- After you get your 4 cups make a 2 holes in it to put the cups.
- After you have the 4 cups you have to get 4 straws because if there's only 2 straw s the cups will be ending up together.
- When you have does things make the straw and turn it to the shape of a cross.
- Then get a pin and a sale tape so the shape of the cross will be stuck together and they will not move.
- Go and get a pencil and stuck them all together and after that you will have anemometer.
Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.
Group size: 5
You will need:
Anemometer (above)
Roles:
- Timekeeper
- Counter
- Recorder
- Anemometer Manager
- Wind generator
- Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
- When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
- If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.
FINDINGS
- Record how many times it spins using the table below.
You will need to create the wind yourself by blowing. Get 4 different wind speeds by blowing.
You will need to time them and count the number of spins.
Time Interval | Number of Spins | |
1. | 10 | 36 sec |
2. | 10 | 18 sec |
3. | 10 | 24 sec |
4. | 10 |
- Can you make a statement connecting the number of spins of your anemometer and the speed of the wind?
- The first one was longest one because maybe because one of the person in my group didn't stop blowing into and also we are near the door, the second one was the 24 second one I think it was only like that because the person was running out of breath and also the anemometer didn't move fast at all, and the last one was only 18 because he was at the heat pump and also the problem is there's a lot of people in there so I think It was just only 18 seconds.
CONCLUSION:
My group and I did work well but the only problem is that some of the people in my group was playing and it was hard for me to listen. While where making the anemometer some of the cups were breaking because one of the people in my group accidentally broke it and I think we try it a lot of times and always make a mistake. But I think it will work well if my group listen properly and the mistake that we did was when we're putting the straw together we didn't put some sale tape to make it strong that's why when we're blowing on the anemometer the cups always getting up together because we didn't do it properly. The point of making this anemometer was to know the how strong is the wind is or how calm is it but on that day the wind was not really strong because you can tell it if you look at the grass because grass was light and also some flags because it was also very light if you want to know the wind speed just looked at those things or using this anemometer.Doing this was very fun and I know that my group can do more better done that.
RECYCLED
Aim: To learn practical ways of recycling so that we can make our world a better place.
How can we prevent climate change by recycling these products?
Plastics: If you don't reuse plastic it would be bad since plastic does not biodegrade. Then it would be left in the landfill which will cause methane and once methane is released into the air it causes more air pollution.
Plastics: If you don't reuse plastic it would be bad since plastic does not biodegrade. Then it would be left in the landfill which will cause methane and once methane is released into the air it causes more air pollution.
Cycling or walking: If you walk and or ride a bike you lessen driving a car since cars can cause Carbon Dioxide.
Paper: If we reuse paper it will lessen the need for cutting down more trees.
Steel: If you don't reuse steel it will be the normally be labelled as garbage and will be buried under a landfill. Or we will burn them and once we burn it cause more pollution on land and air.
Video questions:
What is Zero Waste?
Zero waste is one of the quickest and affordable ways a community immediately reduces the impact on climate change.
What can we do on the planet?
Leaves - Well leaves provide us foods and air to help the plants to grow, also of know that leaves breath in carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen. Leaves can use through the photosynthesis which green plants use sunlight because sunlight is used to form foods from carbon dioxide and water, also the photosynthesis help the leaves to be green.
Milk Carton - Milk carton are also made of from paperboard and it was coated polyethylene, they used paperboard because it was stronger but it was non- recycle.Milk carton can use for fun because you create something form it because a lot of people or kids use it as crafting they used the carton of the milk and they build house miniature for birds, dolls, or Lego figures. Also Milk carton has a great small size for growing small plants.
Glass Bottles - Glass is 100% recyclable and it can be recycled without losing quality and the purity of the glass, also heating glass in the microwave is more safer that heating plastic because plastic can be melted because of the temperature so that's why a lot of people like glass than using plastic because you can save more money. Most of the people use glass bottle as D.I.Y projects because they can build painted flower vase, bottle tree or Tiki torch bottle,etc..
Orange Peels - Orange peel can help to clean dirty water also orange peel add nutrients and nitrogen to a plants as they decompose , also that orange peel has more fiber than the real fruit inside. There a lot of thing that orange peel can do like orange peel can be used to start a fire, etc. In the compost piles the orange peel can bring in phosphorus, nitrogen and the potassium ( Is a mineral ), and they say that it was a good idea to break your peel down in the a small pieces so the peel will compost faster and faster but if you peel into a big piece they can take a lot of time to compost.
You need to answer three questions.
Name:
What can we do on the planet?
- Repair
- Reduce
- Reuse
- Recycle
What do we need to recycle?
Put biodegradable materials into the green waste bin so we can help stabilise the soil. Also Plastic, steel, and the paper.
What does recycling do?
We can shut down 20% of the coal factories which can be done immediately and it can prevent pollution.
How much of our rubbish is food scraps?
90,000
What does soil do to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
Soil can decrease carbon dioxide but also since soil can help grow plants it is also good since plants eat carbon dioxide since that is the source to create there leaves and stems.
What do we need to do?
- Make Changes
- Have Zero waste
What is a carbon footprint?
How can you make your Carbon Footprint smaller?
Carbon footprint goals:
1. Walk to school and less driving to school
2. Take faster showers
3.during the day use the sunlight and not use the electricity
ENERGY SAVING TIPS FILM
Name 4 of the tips.
- Turn off your lights when your not using it or your going out.
- Turn off you water when your brushing your teeth or soaping your hands.
- Unplug unused electronics like charger etc.
- Use cold water when your going to use washing machine.
AT WHAT RATES DO DIFFERENT ITEMS DECOMPOSE?
MY INVESTIGATION.
Choose 5 items from the list and investigate them.
Papers- If we recycled a paper it can be made out of a Cardboard, magazines, paper towels, news paper, and a napkins. If we don't recycled paper we wouldn't have something to write on and don't have a news paper to read and I that the paper will be bad for the oceans because if it wasn't recycle the paper will be pile up in the ocean.

- Glass Bottles - 500 years or Forever?
- Paper - 2-4 weeks
- Milk Carton - In my research they are made of wood pulp but it was mixed with a hardwood and a softwood.
- Orange Peels - Orange Peels are made of Orange seeds
- Leaves - Leaves are made of CO2 which is carbon dioxide.
- Glass Bottles - Glass Bottles are made from sand, ash, soda, and limestone because they use natural gas and heat which they use coal to create the bottle shape.
- Paper - It was made from Pulp Cotton from the woods in the tree's

- Milk Carton - When we put the milk Cartoons into the bins it has to be put with the Glass containers, like Steel and etc. Some of the people put this cartoons into the bins of paper because outside of the milk cartoon is paper/ or a card paper but in the inside it was made of aluminium so it's not right to put the milk cartoons into the bins of paper.
- Orange Peels - With the Orange Peels it easy to reuse it because you can add to your compost heat so it can create soil and it can also create different things like Limoncino or Arancino.
- Leaves - Once you started to mowing the lawn you can add the leaves that have fallen to the ground that came from a trees, if you add them you lawn can shared them up to pieces the size of the grass that is clippings. It can cause the leaves to decompose faster and faster.
- Glass Bottles - If you throw the Glass Bottle to the yellow bin the Glass Bottle will be taken to a machine which then separates and discolour all of the bottles inside the yellow bin. Once the Bottle are crushed and melted down the bottle can be reused to create a new glass products like the glass bottle can be turned into a glass jug.
- Paper - When it was recycled it was taken to a machine where it will separate the kinds and grades of paper and once it was done it will wash away any extra writing or and wash any extra ink off with a soapy water. When it was done it creates a slurry which then creates different kinds of paper materials like news paper, card paper, news paper, etc.
4. How does this object contribute to climate change?
- Milk Carton - Well milk impacts the environment in a various way because dairy cows produce manure which releases a greenhouse gas into our atmosphere.
- Orange Peel - There is nothing for the orange peels that can cause/contribute something to our climate change.
- Leaves - Mostly of the leaves can help to decrease climate change and not contributing but leaves can help because they feed off carbon dioxide and release oxygen to the air.
- Glass Bottles - When glass bottles are created it needs heat to create its form which means it needs fossil fuels which is the coal to heat up a furnace/heating system, and the carbon dioxide can't stay inside. So we let the carbon dioxide go outside into the air which cause air pollution and also our air temperature increase.
- Paper - All of us always need a paper to write on so there are always trees need to be cut because tree's eat the carbon dioxide once the tree's are cut down. It will release its carbon dioxide that contain in the air which will also cause air pollution.
