Friands - Home Economics

In our Home Economics, we made another type of muffin but this time its not a ginger gems but it was a small litlle muffin called Friands. So here is the method, and also the ingredients and our mise en place.

Ingredients :

2 medium egg whites

2 T plain flour

1/2 c icing sugar, plus extra for dusting

1/2 c ground almonds

zest 1 lemon

60 gm butter, melted

A dollop of jam on top of each one

Method:

1

Preheat oven 180 degree Celsius. Grease a 12-hole mini muffin tin lightly with butter, then dust with flour. Tip tin upside down and tap to remove any excess flour ( doing this will help to stop the friands from sticking to the tin, making them easier to remove once cooked).

2

Very lightly whisk egg whites in a medium - sized bowl until bubbles begin to appear.

3

Sift flour and icing sugar into the bowl containing the egg whites, then add ground almonds, lemon zest and butter.Whisk lightly until just combined - Do not over mix.

4

Pour mixture into mini muffin tin, filling each hole to three-quarters full. Top each with a blackberry and gently push it in ever so slightly.

5

Bake for 12-15 minutes lightly golden around the edges. Friands should not sink when touched lightly with your finger.Allow to cool for a few minutes before removing from tin and transferring to a wire rack ( you may need to use a knife to carefully loosen friands from the tin ). Dust with icing sugar just before serving.

Variations to Recipe..

1 1/2 T coconut flour instead of the plain flour to make the Friands Gluten Free. Could used frozen berries of season.

In that exercise my job, is to whisk the dry ingredients and furthermore whisk the wet ingredients. We alternate of doing the work , so everybody will be included. This one is a sort off hard, particularly the part when you need to isolate the white and yolk. We need to move rapidly, in light of the fact that we needed to complete in the specific time were the lunch start. I had a great time working with my group that time, we had some good times doing the stuff and sharing the positions. I'm again pleased in light of the fact that we complete the process of doing it early.

FOOD GROUPS - SCIENCE

Last two weeks, we have been looking at the body and all the food groups we need to to stay healthy and fit, but we are more focusing on water. Like how to prevent dehydration, and stuff.

Carbohydrates : Sugary or starchy foods that are found in cereal,s, grains, fruits and root vegetables. Carbohydrates provide energy.

Proteins : Found in foods such as meat, fish, eggs and pulses. Proteins are needed for growth and repair of muscle and other tissue.

Lipids : Found in foods such as milk, cheese, butter and margarine. They are needed to provide energy, to insulate our organs and for making cell membranes.

Minerals : Minerals are chemical that help release energy from food or assist with chemical processes within our bodies. Minerals include chemicals such as iron, calcium and iodine.

Vitamins: Are chemicals we need in small amounts to keep our bodies functioning. We get a lot of vitamins from fresh fruit and vegetables. Vitamins cannot be made by humans, so they must come from our diet.

Fibre : Its a nutrient we cannot break down. It helps to keep food moving and cleans the digestive system. It also acts as food source for " good" bacteria in our gut.

So now we have to create a poster of some advantage about water, and today I worked with a buddy to help me think and we also can think - pair - share. We picked 5 things that we find, so important about the water.

Ginger gems

In our Home Economics, we made another type of muffin but this time its not a apple muffin instead it was Ginger Gems . So here is the method, and also the ingredients and our mise en place.

Ginger Gems :

2 c flour

1 t baking soda

1 c caster sugar

2 t ground ginger

2 T golden syrup

100 g butter

2 eggs

1 c milk

Method :

1. Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl

2.Warm Butter and Golden Syrup together in microwave until the butter has just melted

3.Remove and allow to cool slightly

4.Add eggs and milk, beat well to combine all wet ingredients

5.Add liquids to dry ingredients and gently mix. Do not over mix it

6.Grease muffin tin with spray oil

7.Carefully spoon mixture into prepared muffin tin. Fill about 2/3 full

8.Bake at 200 degree Celsius for 12-15 mins. These are cooked when skewer inserted into the center come out clean or the center springs back when pressed.

My job that time is to quantify a portion of the dry fixings, and deal with blending the butter, syrup and the egg together. I need to hustle just a bit when I'm getting the dry ingredients since certain of groups will likewise require it. My work is simple, and keeping in mind that the two person of my group is occupied with blending I chose to do the dishes to make it simpler for us. So that toward the end we don't need to panic about washing them in such a rush. When were noticing the gems, we figured we treated it terribly since it wasn't ascending so we were completely terrified that we did failed to put something however fortunately we didn't. The food we made isn't my type, the way that is excessively gingery however it actually taste great it's simply that we put a ton of ginger in it. So we need to change that next time, yet toward the end the look and the surface is acceptable. It was delicate, and it would seem that a mushroom. I will prescribe this however make sure to put the perfect measure of things, and adhere to the guidance accurately.

Banana and Chocolate Chip Muffin

In our Home Economics, we made another muffin but this time its not a apple muffin. Instead it was a banana and chocolate chip muffin. So here is the method, and also the ingredients ( the picture of the recipe was kind of blurry so I have to find another easy recipe in google..)

Ingredients:

- A butter
- 2 cups of self-raising flour
1/2 cup of caster sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon of Vanilla Essence
2 frozen bananas
1 cup of Dark chocolate chips or chocolate drops.

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 280C

In a medium bowl add flour, caster sugar and combine well and set aside.

Mash the banana and also set aside.

Melt the butter in a covered medium sized of bowl in the microwave in 20 seconds, and then set aside to cool slightly.

Then add the melted butter the egg, and milk and whisk it well.

Create a well in a center of your dry ingredients and pour in the butter mixture, also add the mashed banana with the chocolate chips and lightly mix with a wooden spoon. Gently mix just until no flour is left but be careful not to over mix or the muffins will be tough.

Spray muffin tray with baking spray or I highly recommend to use a cupcake cases.

Put the muffins in the oven for 10 minutes ( bake ), then switch it to fanbake and wait for another 5 minutes. So approximately you needed wait for 10-15 minutes, until the muffins are cook.

After that wait for a minute to cool the muffins, and you're ready to eat it.Uploading: 369913 of 369913 bytes uploaded.

My team work really well, and I think working in a small group is more easier because you get everything done without arguing. Because everyone has a job to do, since we have to move fast and we don't want to be late for lunch. I'm really proud of them, since they all show resilience and commitment. Also we followed the steps rightfully, and we didn't rush doing them. The appearance of he muffin looks really appetising, and look really pretty because of the color and shape of it. I also love the smell of this muffin, it was because of the vanilla essence. The texture is also good, it was soft and the top was kind of crunchy and the taste is really delicious. So probably I wouldn't change anything because the texture , the appearance, the smell, and the taste is already perfect.

ESOL...

This week ESOL was a reading challenge week, on Tuesday we read a short stories since we do't have much time. We read a story about School in Ethiopia by Hialeab Gesese. It was about a boy who lives in Ethiopia, and he has to change school since his mother always went to different place of work, and it just tell of how their school work. Like what they wear, and also how many subjects and students went to his favorite school. After reading we have to answer some question about the story, and it was really quite easy and  also really fun to do. It also include 10 easy questions. Today, we were doing some writing stuff. We don't just write a random story, because it has to include three words and they are Contemplate, Courageous, and Cornucopia. If you are not familiar about the word Cornucopia well it's goat's horn overflowing with flowers and also fruits. So my story is just about a girl, who entry to a competition of making this Cornucopia.

A symbol of plenty consisting of a goat's horn overflowing with flowers, fruit, and corn. It is one of the traditional things we do in here, and today is a big day since we're having a competition to create the best Cornucopia. My name is Alice, and I participate in this challenge, because I know I am courageous enough to win and take home the big prize ( $1000). I was somehow scared and anxious but I still did it. The first thing is that we have to contemplate the examples, and see if we can design it in our own way and also make it more fashionable just to catch people's attention. It took me an hour to create this masterpiece, and I’m really happy with how it turns out. I was shaking, also sweating at the same time because the result is there right in front of me, the judges are about to announce the winner.

I went home and I still can’t explain these emotions inside me, I run quickly and just can’t wait to hug my mother. Because I won!! I was excitedly running and skipping, and this big price I’m holding will help me and my mum buy some stuff we needed. I know that I don’t deserve this kind of thing but my mum does. She is courageous and playful to me, and she is that kind of person who is good at hiding their feelings. She is strong, and she will do everything just to make me happy and have a good life even though we’re poor. I’m really blessed to have such an incredible mum, when I arrive home. My mum is waiting for me there, those beautiful smiles made it more a special day for me. I quickly hugged her, and gave her the prize. She hugged me more tight, and thanked me. She is really proud of me, and that is the best feeling in the world. My mum and I went inside, and talked about some things. After that we live happily again, even though it was just me and her.

Narrator:

Alice the wise girl, hopes to do that kind of thing again. Because now she is not afraid of anything she will do the things she hasn't done before, and make her mother proud of her. Alice practises everyday making cornucopia, and guess what she makes one and sells it for $50. She makes money, and she even saves tons of it. She always helped her mother, and the both of them were now living in a big house. That is thanks for her amazing daughter, who was known in her country. She now teaches people how to make it formally. She grew more, but her attitude didn’t change a bit. Alice was known by every kid, because every kid admire. She is pretty, wise and also a hard worker....

I truly love the way it ends up, and the shape was so charming. Interestingly, I think we put a lot cinnamon, and yet it actually taste flavorful. The delicate quality of the biscuits, and the taste is the awesome. I would energetically suggest this, yet a tip don't put a lot cinnamon or probably it will make taste like something different. My gathering and I did a truly incredible occupation despite the fact that there's just the three of us since somebody wasn't doing cooking any longer, we buckled down and I'm truly glad that we moved quick and we figure out how to complete it on schedule.

Heart Dissection

Sheep Heart Dissection Science Lab Activity | Learnist | Heart anatomy quiz, Heart anatomy, Anatomy and physiology

In our Hurumanu 4 class, we have tart another dissecting experiment but this time were dissecting a sheep heart. First up, we have to be in a group and work as team then we can start talking about the safety and the aim/ also the methods.

Aim: To look at the structure of the heart.

 Method:

- You need a gloves

- Scalpel

- Tray

- Scissors

- Tweezers

- Cleaning supplies

- News paper

- A sheep heart

Safety/ Steps:

1. Wear a pair of gloves

2. Do not put anything in your mouth (fingers, pens, etc) during the dissection. Also be careful with the tools you're using, because their ends are very sharp and you might hurt yourself if you're are being silly.

3. Put and place the news paper in the table, and also place the tray in your table.

4. Get all of the things you needed like the scalpel, scissors and other things but you have to make sure that you can control yourself when you're holding the scalpel and other pointy objects.

5. Wash your hands thoroughly at the end of the dissection with antibacterial soap and hot water. Also we need to ensure your hands are dried after washing.

6. After doing the dissection, spray surfaces with antibacterial soap.

Well the very first thing I did since I worked by myself, is I observe the heart and see what it actually looks like since I haven't seen a sheep heart for a long time now. At very I was actually shocked that it was kind of bigger than my fist. It doesn't smell that bad, and I actually had fun. So what I did is I take off the fat ( it protects the organs), which is the white thing around the heart. Then secondly was I found the Aorta which is the exit of the heart, and then we cut out the chamber. When I cut out the chamber I saw this strings which controlled and help keep the heart structure be stable.

ESOL - Athletics day

Yesterday was one of the most exciting but also a fearful for everyone, the event we did was Athletics day. Everyone has to wear their kahui house color , and my one is Blue and that represent Rirorio. Everyone is doing different things, like some people is doing social ( which is when you still need to participate but really don't have to try your best ) then the other things is competitive ( you have to compete and really try your best at every sports you're doing ). I pick to do social because I'm that kind of person who really don't like participating, since I'm not that type of person who like sports. Furthermore, yesterday was actually really fun.

Also in my P.E class we have this record when we practise for it, so here are my results.
Long Jump - 2.58 m
Discuss - 9.6 m
Shot put - 6. 45m

One of my technique in Long jump is start running as fast you can, and also when you get to the line don't panic and try jump as you can. In Discuss stand with your left shoulder pointing at the target and your body facing the direction perpendicular to your shoulder (for right-handers). Keep your feet shoulder-width apart. Bend your knees slightly. Hold the discus to your front, with your throwing hand, palm down. In shot put The chest, knee and toe should be in line with each other. The thrower places the shot into his/her neck. The left arm will be extended and out from the body with a right angle relationship to the right elbow. Over exaggerate the use of the legs in the throw especially the hips.

High Jump:
The year 9 girls have to participate and do high jump as their first event. At first I really don't want to do it since I'm not that really good at high jump, and I'm scared that I might fall and hurt myself. Likewise, I still have to do it so I try my very best to do it and I'm really happy that I get out of my comfort zone. High jump is not the very fun thing I did, in the Athletics day but I still enjoy it.

Discuss:
I'm not really good at throwing because yesterday I have a very weak arm, but luckily I pick social so I don't have to really try but to only participate and earn point for the kahui house. I wasn't scared to do it, that's why I don' have to worry about hurting myself since all I have to do is to just throw it and sit down. After everyone has their turn, we can go around and watch and support other people because we have an hour break before our next event start.

Running:
I skip running because I arrive late, which is kind of sad because I was looking forward of doing it. So all I did was wait and get ready for my next event which is Shot put.

Shot put:
This is the most easiest thing we did, even though the metal ball is really heavy.

My favorite part of this day when we watch the relays, it was exciting and scared at the same time for our kahui. I really like part when were supporting them, and it was so enjoyable. I think we win some of them, but Riroriro lost one round. Yesterday was the most fun thing we did this term, and I'm looking forward again next year.

Chaos

In out class, which is Humanities and for the next three weeks we have to work independently on one of the matrix. There's four different topic we can try and do, and my one is Parihaka. I have learnt a lot of this when I was a in year 8, and the reason I did it again it because to reflect my knowledge about it

Questions:
  1. Where is Parihaka

Parihaka is a very small community in the Taranaki region with a big history, it was located between a mountain called Mount Taranaki and the Tasman Sea.

  1. Region of New Zealand b) Near what Mt TARANAKI c) What coast Pungarehu

  1. What were the British wanting to do in Taranaki and Parihaka

Well they have a very main reason why they wanted to attack the small community. Indeed, the truly headliners that lead Parihaka to be set up is the point at which their kin are being tranquil, and don't need any brutality in their city while the European are assaulting them and moving their territories from them, individuals simply remain there on the grounds that they know their privileges. The Parihaka settlement was established in 1866. November 5 1881, when 1600 soldiers attacked Western Taranaki, which had come to represent harmony when the Maori land was seized. Also in a long haul of causing an Invasion of land reviewing by a portion of the public authority authorities. Which prompted a land seizure and the serious pressures between the Maori public and the Europeans.

The thought behind setting up Parihaka is to ensure that nobody will assault on the Europeans fighters, when they are taking a portion of the grounds. They didn't battle and ensure nobody was harmed, and simply have a tranquil daily routine to experience. That is the reason why a portion of their predecessors were taken and captured and went to South Island prison and the entirety of their territories were taken by them. Some of them even pass on in harmony. AlsoThe New Zealand Company seized their property, and they additionally bought those land inexpensively from the Maori. The Maori individuals who lost their territories were constrained by the Europeans to move homes, after that every one of them lived ineffectively and obviously they wouldn't quit agonizing over being harmed however they weren't right in light of the fact that the two chiefs didn't need any brutality and no grisly wars. Where? They actually live there in light of the fact that the Parihaka public realize that they don't need to leave despite the fact that the troopers are compelling them. They represent their privileges and honor.

Well the effect of the Maori's property wasn't unreasonably acceptable great, since some of them including the children were all becoming ill. Suppose every one of them are living ineffectively. That is the reason they don't have a lot of food to eat, due to the Europeans taking their properties. So New Zealand affected the iwi truly hard, and I unequivocally accept that there's no day that they didn't endure. Those Maori/iwi individuals who lost their property/lands were totally prohibited to take them back from the Europeans.

Who were the leaders in Parihaka?

Before the battles of the 1860s had finished or right off in the 1866. A development for harmony and autonomy was set up at Parihaka in the western Taranaki. Under the authority of Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi, both of the Taranaki and Te Ati Awa iwi.

How did they protest and what type of protest is this called?

Individuals and the two heads of Parihaka fought in an alternate manner, they didn't want any war however rather they all remained peaceful and quiet. That is the reason the Parihaka had the represent of "Passive Resistance". During the 1860s the Parihaka was before long pulling in confiscated and baffled Maori from around the nation, that is on the grounds that Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi created strategies of peaceful obstruction.

They didn't need any battles to occur, so the sort of dissent they did is Passive obstruction which means, quiet and no savagery.

Do you think New Zealand should celebrate the Leaders of Parihaka instead of guy folks on November 5th?

For each New Zealanders said that it bodes well to perceive the critical of Parihaka leaders instead of Guy folks, since it was a foiled demonstration of terrorism warfare in a distant land. I mean we should celebrate peaceful activity, yet additionally peace among the families who lost their love one, and peace among the local area however particularly to the two chiefs who show the genuine significance of peacefulness, and advocate for something that isn't a terrorism  oppressor activity in a fa-off country. That we should hold a very little allegiance up 'till today and age. That's the reason we ought to observe Parihaka day more, however we can celebrate Guy fawkes on the fifth of November.

Albatross Feather:
At the point when Te Whiti died in 1907, a kaumātua called Charles Waitara talked at his tangi, saying: Leave this alone unmistakably comprehended by all Māoris, Pākehās and any remaining countries. The white who is an indication that all countries through the world will be one; dark, red and all others who are called individuals. This plume will be the indication of solidarity, thriving, harmony furthermore, altruism.

There are kinds of how the Raukura plume turned out to be, for example, critical image of individuals in Taranaki, and its sources will in general search inside the ancestral limits of the iwi,Taranaki, with the specific that reference to the Parihaka. Parihaka who saw an Albatross arrival on one its patios, dropping a solitary plume prior to leaving. This feather turned into the Raukura, and was respected by Tohu Kakahi and Te Whiti-o-Rongomai, two of the prophetic heads of Parihaka, and its local area.

Through the particular and noteworthy administration of these two prophets, the Raukura quills turned into an image of tranquil conjunction as a Maori country. This advanced fundamentally to the iwi of Aotearoa who had turned out to be intensely persecuted and underestimated by the Crown. The Raukura plumes were an image of the detached opposition development that Tohu Kakahi and Te Whiti-o-Rongomai coordinated as a methods for re-hoisting the mana of the Maori individuals with a craving of being self-sufficient by and by.
