Writing - Lockdown 2.0

Kumusta everyone, today I have chosen another task around our wananga activities. In this blog, I will be combining two of my work, around writing. The first task was to write only a 100-word challenge using the prompt lock-down 2.0, and then the other task was creative writing we have to write a short story based on one of the given pictures. In the first task, it was not that difficult to do because I only have to write 100 words, the only thing is that I keep forgetting about the limit so I have to re-read everything. And always keep an eye on how many words I have written, so when I go overboard I will have to remove another word and try to re-write the sentence to make it clear and understandable.

For my second task, I used the second picture. Because for me it gives me the vibe of one of the anime movies. I have watched it, and it was actually my favorite one so I used it as my inspiration. It took me a long time to think of a different name and shorten the movie out. It took me a long time to do it, and this time I actually find it quite difficult but I have finished it. Writing is actually quite fun, it helps me build another imagination and put me in a different world...

Well-being

Kia Ora, I have another task around the wananga work that was set for us. This task is all about our well-being, it has 5 questions and we have to write about what we do with that situation. I used google docs, and play around with it I also remember when one of my yr 9 teachers taught us how to present google docs in a different way. So I looked back on one of our lessons that has the instruction and steps. I used her ways of using the doc, instead of just presenting it plain.

Our well-being is really important because it helps us to be healthier, and achieve what we want for life. For me, it is defined as being comfortable, happy, and productive and it also means we can avoid discomfort and stress. It is one of the good things for our growth.

Music of the Pacific

In this task, we have to look around the music of the Pacific. This includes Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, New Caledonia, and lastly Tahiti. We are given 4 different questions so basically, we have to do another research, and I have chosen to present them in a slide show. Since it was easier, to edit, and it didn't take me a long time to research it. I have learned a lot of things that I actually didn't know about them, especially when it comes to their flag.  I was shocked at some of them since I haven't seen them, but I love the fact every flag was so colorful. I also love the fact that each of this country, their place was clean and full of friendly people and also beautiful nature. I've enjoyed doing this since some of my friends come from one of these places. I have a hard time looking for some answers since sometimes some random things pop out and it will give me a different answer.

Famous Musicians

Hola everyone, today I will be sharing with you what I have done around task 3 which is about listening to new music. The slideshow shows 15 different famous musicians that paved the way in their genres, our task was to listen to one song from each of them, and it also asks if there were any of them I would listen to more. I also need to find one of my favorite songs from each artist. When I was listening to these songs, I actually regret not listening to them. I remember one time when my mum is listening to the Beatles, I asked her to stop listening to those types of music it was because I know nothing about them. But now I'm starting to like this type of music. After listening to a few of the songs, when I came across this American cellist. Named Yo-yo Ma, and when I listened to one of his songs I actually liked it out of all the other songs. Why? Because I'm actually a type of person who likes calm music, and every time I'm listening to it and I'm doing my work. I will be more focused and I would finish my work in no time. For now, I would love to listen to him playing his cello while doing chores or maybe doing my work...

Here is my presentation.

Origami - Flower Base

Magandang gabi/umaga everyone, I'm super excited to share with u guys what's the purpose of this blog post. Well, I will be sharing with you what I did for this task, we have to watch a youtube clip and carefully teach me how to create a piece of origami. I have searched tons and tons of ideas of how to create one, but none of them seems easy. To be honest, I'm not good at creating this type of thing, because I'm not really a crafty person. But I still tried making one, and I think Kinda did a good job at following the instructions. I have thought of why not make a flower base, I wanted to create something cute and also useful. I choose to make a flower base, just to put in my room but there's a twist instead of putting flowers I wanted to put all of my pencils, markers, and stuff in it since they're all over on my study table.

I had tons of fun creating this, even though I did struggle a lot so what I did was I changed the speed of the video, to 0.75 (slow) so that I can understand it more easily. But I have to redo it over again, but I'm still proud that I did it by myself by just watching a youtube clip. I'm happy with how it turns out because now my table is not that messy anymore.

Garden sculpture

Garden sculpture, for this task we have to make our own garden sculpture by finding any object outside the house. I tried searching for some ideas, and it took me a long time and brainstorm how to create my own one. Then I realized that I can recycle stuff, such as the cap of the bottle, and some old wood. My idea was to cut out some piece of wood, into any shape like a bird, flower, boat, etc. Then just put the bottle cap all over it, and I'm thinking of using a metal nail instead of super glue. In my opinion, I think it wouldn't stick that long if I use glue, and sometimes it dries really slow.

I actually had fun doing this task, because I tried drawing what I wanted it to look like when I make this sculpture. I feel like drawing is the easiest way to explain something, so I tried my best to make it look similar to the one in my head.

Filipino language Week:)

Kumusta everyone, in Wananga we tons of different activities we can do while we are in lockdown. They called it "Lockdown 2.0", so basically, they have 10 different activities and this is my first one yet since I was focus on doing my yr 9 tasks. In this task, we are given about 5 different questions about the Philippines, and we are asked to present them in different ways, so I thought why not use canva to present my work. Using canva is the easiest way, and I'm most familiar with it.

I've enjoyed doing this task, and I'm really proud since it didn't take me a long time to do it. Because I've asked my family, and even my aunties and cousins in the Philippines about their thoughts, and opinion. I can't wait to do another activity, around these lockdown tasks.

Here is the slideshow, I hope you've enjoyed reading it.

Badminton - P.E

Bonjour, I have another task for my yr 9 classes. This task is about Physical Education, and we are focusing on Badminton. I'm really excited about this task since I play badminton a lot. Playing badminton is one of my favorite hobbies, I think it's because I get to exercise my whole body since you need to run a lot and swing your hand a lot. I started playing badminton in 4th grade, it was hard for me since I feel like the racket was so heavy so I have to adjust, and also my serves, and receive were pretty bad. Also, I know nothing about the rules, luckily my coach helped me improve those techniques. Now I'm pretty happy that I came this far, I still haven't given up on playing badminton, cause I know that I still have a lot to learn from my opponents and my friends. For me badminton is also about focusing, and it tests your abilities how fast you can react and receive them. For this task, we are asked to create a slideshow that will be based on the 12 basic badminton techniques.

Doing this task was fun, since I get to know more about how to properly use the techniques and why they are important to know. So here is the slideshow.

Static Electricity

Hello everyone, well currently New Zealand is on lockdown again cause of a new virus called Delta. So every student will be working from home, again. For this blog, in Science, we are moving on to a new topic called Static Electricity. It might sound a bit familiar to some people, but I'm getting excited to know more about electricity and I will also be learning about new things such as electrons and protons. Electricity is a form of energy produced by the presence of charged particles ( such as electrons and protons ), either statically as a charge accumulation or, dynamically as a current. For this topic, we have a new task and that is to answer these 4 questions.

1. What are the 3 particles that makeup everything? Which ones have positive and negative charges?

Atoms are the building blocks of all physical objects. Protons, electrons, and neutrons make up an atom. Protons have a positive charge -the nucleus is located in the center of each atom. Negatively charged electrons orbit the atom's nucleus. When energized protons pass close to orbiting electrons, their positive charge attracts the negatively charged electrons, causing them to fall out of their orbits. Electrons have a negative charge - electrons are subatomic particles that orbit an atom's nucleus. They usually have a negative charge and are significantly smaller than the atoms' nucleus. While neutrons are neutral. As a result, everything is made up of charges. Charges that are opposite each other attract each other (negative to positive). chares that are similar repel each other ( positive to positive or negative to negative). The majority of the time, positive and negative changes in an object are balanced, making it neutral. The effect of an imbalance between negative and positive charges in an object is static electricity. Certain materials can transfer negative charges, or electrons, by rubbing against one another. For example, rubbing your shoe on the carpet causes your body to collect extra electrons. Electrons cling to your body until they are freed.

2. Objects want to be “electrically neutral”. What does this mean?

A proton and an electron both have the same amount of charge, but they have the opposite type of charges. As a result, an atom is said to be electrically neutral if it has an equal number of protons and electrons.

3. When you rub two insulators you can get a static shock, so what is an insulator and a conductor?

Conductors are materials that allow electrons to easily flow from one particle to the next. When an object is formed of conducting material, the charge can be transferred across its whole surface. If a charge is applied to an object at a specific spot, the charge is swiftly dispersed across the object's whole surface. The movement of electrons causes charge dispersion.
Due to the ability f conductors to transmit electrons from one particle to another, a charged item will always spread its charge until the overall repulsive interactions between surplus electrons and minimized. When a charged conductor comes into contact with another object, it can transfer its charge to that thing. The transmission of charge between is facilitated if the second object is charged.

On the other hand, insulators are materials that prevent electrons from freely flowing from one atom to the next and from one molecule to the next. If the excess charge is transmitted to an insulator at a specific place, the surplus charge remains at the charging point. Because the insulator's particles prevent dispersed evenly across the insulator's surface. Electrostatic testing and demonstrations play an important part in insulation systems yet they are not useful for transferring charges. Leading objects are commonly attached to isolated items. This placement of a driver about the isolator inhibits the transfer of loads from the conductive objects to the environment. This arrangement can also be used to handle an object without touching it by a pupil (or teacher ).

4. What is an example of static electricity?

For example, electrons may be transferred from one material to the other when two different materials come into close contacts, such as rubbing a balloon on your hair, or two air masses in a storm cloud. When this occurs, one material gains an excess of electrons and becomes negatively charged, while the other gains an electron deficiency and becomes positively charged. The accumulation of imbalanced charges on objects causes a phenomenon known as static electricity. Also some other examples of static electricity that might happen to you, such as receiving shocks after shuffling across a carpet, taking clothes that cling to each other out of the dryer, etc.

The Trolley

Last week in ESOL, we focused on reading. We have read the story about " The Trolley. It was about a family who's not rich but can afford small things. We were asked to create a blog post, and reflect on what I have learned from the story.  I have learned that we should all be grateful for everything, even though it's small or big, it doesn't matter. As long as it is from someone who truly appreciates you, and gives you the best life. Also, the other thing I have learned from the story, I know that we all feel happy when we receive hundreds of money because we can buy anything we want. But that doesn't mean you can buy happiness from it. You can only become happy when you feel loved or special. In the story, their mom couldn't buy an expensive thing because she doesn't have enough money. What she did was very inspirational, she stayed up all night making the gift even though her friends invite her to have a party. She chooses her kids as her priority. She feels anxious that they might not like it because it was just a simple gift. But she was wrong, her kids liked it even the others They played with it happily.  Homemade gifts are better to let the receiver feel the extra love. In addition, a homemade gift lets someone feel extra special rather than giving a store-bought present. I have learned a lot of things from the story, and I was also asked to write a diary but from the point of view of one of the kids.

Dear Diary,

My name is Miria and I have one brother called Hoani, it’s almost Christmas Eve and I'm kinda feeling down. I heard that everyone in my class will be receiving nice gifts, and I’m getting jealous but I’m keeping my hopes up because I believe that my mum will buy me the most precious thing in the whole entire world. Now that I remember in school we learned a definition of some words, and I still don’t get it even though I keep asking myself what it actually does mean. Almost Christmas Eve and I can’t wait, me and Hoani asked permission if we can stay all night since it was almost Christmas. Unfortunately, she didn’t let us, I find her suspicious about her actions. She is probably hiding something from us. She’s not like that, we all promise each other that we should not keep secrets. I and my brother and I woke up on the happiest day, which is celebrating Christmas! I’m so excited about what we are about to receive this year. I hope it is something we can use every day together. We run outside as fast as we can, even though we're still in our pajamas. Then we stopped, we didn't say a single word when we saw the gift. Hoani and I ran outside, while we were holding the gift she gave us. It was a cute little trolley. I might not be pretty like those skateboards, and it might not be an expensive gift. For us it is already the best gift ever, now I understand the purpose of life and the definition of gratefulness.  It is all about receiving something with all my heart, and Hoani and I may not be rich but we have the best bonding. We both receive the best mum in the entire world, and it also is not about having tons of money. Christmas is all about bonding with each other and thanking each other…

Discovery - Health

In health we were set a task that required us to research and discover stuff, that is more based on your mind and well-being. For this task, I have chosen to do Addiction around drugs and drinking.

Firstly we had to do a lot of steps to do our official presentation, we have shared a doc that required tons of things such as questions, ideas, and some guides when we don't know what we were doing. Actually, the very main thing was to pick out a topic that we are interested in, and we have to let the teacher know if we will be working in pairs or by ourselves. I have chosen to do it by myself because I know that one person will not be able to do anything and just give the rest of the work to her/his pair. Which I think it's not fair to do, also another reason is that I get to actually learn things and focus on the task more instead of just talking to my buddy, and getting distracted, and wasting my time mucking around also finishing it on time is one of my goals. Once I have chosen to pick 6 of my big questions, I started to point out some important key points, it's kinda hard to find some information about my topic so I tried searching for other questions and that help me to move forward instead of being stuck in the same questions for an hour. After getting my information, I planned on making an essay for it since it was the easier way to present it to my teacher. He even told us that one question needs to be one page long, so I tried my best to keep it simple and understandable. I was about to make do it on a slideshow, but I thought that it might take all of my time editing stuff, etc. even though making an essay is hard, because it needs to include and persuade people of what I am pointing out. I used my resources to make it look like it. Then, I have learned that these strategies when you wanted to overcome addiction were to making the decision change. What I meant about that is, most people have a clear objective in mind after they have made a decision. It might mean quitting completely, quitting certain addictive behavior or drugs (but not all), reducing the amount of time or money spent on addictive activities, or reducing the harm caused by an addicted activity. Many drug users, for example, opt to stop using heroin or meth but continue to consume alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or use marijuana. Many heavy drinkers set a goal of drinking no more than one drink per day or just drinking socially. Clarifying your aim before putting it into action is beneficial for success in altering addictive behavior.

Secondly, the most important thing was quitting an addictive behavior. Everyone's experience with quitting is unique. Some people find the process freeing and powerful, and they believe they can do anything. Others find it unpleasant, difficult, and disappointing, and it may take several failed efforts before they achieve their aim. Others discover new aspects to themselves as a result of the quitting process. These were helpful, but if you are a teenager. You needed to open your troubles in life to an adult.

Reflection: It was challenging when I couldn't find the right answer for my questions,  and the resources. It sometimes took me 15 minutes approximately, just to find the right website. Even though it was hard I tried my best to cope with it, none stopping discovering the right answer that will perfectly fit in my 6 big questions. I worked well by myself, and also with others since we all helped and ask questions when needed, especially when we don't know what to do. Next time I will try and work with other people instead of working by myself, I wanted to communicate with them more. Also to finish this task easier. I am really proud of my work and myself because even though I had a hard time discovering stuff I still manage to finish it on time.
