Writing Challenge!

It was really beautiful the blue sky, peaceful ocean and I see a green mountains. The sky is very clear there's no sign of any birds. Clam water that shin like a start, and has a lot of white boats that make's it more cool to look at.  Jeya enjoying ever thing I see the boats, the waves ,Jeya feel the cold breeze and enjoying the beautiful sun while swaying the grass.

Jeya was enjoying her vacation after her long work that she have to do. She decided to rest under those green trees, she enjoy everything and that time she didn't realise that she felt asleep without any blanket or any pillows. Jeya felt that someone is watching her that didn't help her to sleep, and she was also interrupt because of the cold breeze that give her goosebumps and shivers so hard, and a loud splash of the waves. But she still don't mind and continue her calm relaxed sleep. 

While Jeya was sleeping in the middle of the night, she heard a really scary growl. Jeya was really frightened because she was not used to this things, because she was only used to sleep without anything that interrupt her. She slightly open her eyes, while hiding her face in her hands. She was trembling because of the sound that she heard, she was really confused and don't have any ideas where did it came from so Jeya has her suspicions about the sound. 

As Jeya was hearing those sounds she try to become brave and take off her hands and open her eyes. Jeya look around and didn't see something, so she bravely stand up and there she saw a friendly lion who is hiding in the bush. She come closer to the lion pet it, and the lion didn't move an inch. Jeya and lion became a close friends, and the lion is always with Jeya where ever she goes.

Hi everyone, today we have to make another practise activities for our Summer Learning. We already make our first one and I pick the activities and it was about making a profile page about Lorde. But today I pick this activity.

What Subject Would You Like to Learn That Is Not Offered At School?

Hi everyone, today we have to share what we like to learn in the school that isn't offered. Because when you attend a high school there's some boring subject but some of them is quit good to learn. But if you have a chance to pick whatever subject you want to learn and why you want it?

For me I want to learn about 'Arts and Humanities' because Humanities include a lot of topic like ancient and modern languages, literature, philosophy, history, human geography, law politics, religion and of course art. That's why I really hope that I can learn more about it because it not just based on arts but it was based on a lot of things. I pick this subject because I can learn more about langues that modern people speak such as English, Latin, Japanese and the German langues.  It is also because I love painting even though I'm really bad at it.

Kindness Banner

Hi everyone, in week 4 the cool to be kind group was planning to make a kindness banner so we can put it around the Kahui's classes. First we need to be in a group of 4 and in that group it need to have different classes like 2 from Al and 2 from Bh. I was with Rieya, Chloe from Bh, and Danielle from Tz. The purpose of making this banner is just to remind the people in the school that is kindness is a good thing. We have to plan what are we going to write so we can put it on the big paper. Me and my group pick the message called "One Kind Word Can Change Someone Entire Day". We also plan what are design and we all end up putting flower border in the edge, we also plan to use water colour for the letters. It kinda took us 2 days to paint it because there's a a lot of flowers and also some letters, but we try our best to finish it as fast as possible. What I found difficult is when some of our members are gone because they have to go to others activities like the "Gym Sports" and Singing. I was really proud of my group because we finish at the right time, and that's because we help each other a lot.

Where would I go for my Holiday!?

Hi everyone, today we have to tell you if we have a chance to go anywhere in the world for our holiday where would it be and WHY?. I was really thinking about going in South Korea because when I was a kid it was actually my dream my place and I want to go there with my friends or my family. I just want to go there because I want to see BTS(Korean boy band). First I was really planning on going to "Greece" to see my grandma that I haven't see when I was kid.

The reason why I want go there because I want to try their food like the Soju, kimchi ramen, etc. I also want to try to wear their traditional clothes and go to Seoul, Busan, Jeju, and Nami Island and the han river. Also experience some new things like learn more about their culture, and how to speak their language, visit their temples. Because South Korea place are very beautiful and very gorgeous also the people are very nice like when you ask them they will help you. I really hope that I can go to South Korea to see my idol and try a lot of things.

Badminton Competition.

Hi everyone, for today's topic I will talk about our Badminton Indoor competition and it happen last Monday and Tuesday. Also there's Basketball team and Volleyball team, in those two days straight we have to go to school really early because we have to leave at school at 8:30 am. When we arrive there the manager of the "Zhu badminton center" have to check our shoes if it was "Non-Marking" shoes because we are not allowed to play if it is not "Non- Marking" and also if you don't have those kind of shoes we have to play barefoot. 

When we go inside the center we have to prepare for our game because the Hornby Girls team and the Mixed team are going to play first, and I am one of the Hornby Girls. I was kinda nervous because I have to verse Year 8 person and some Year 7 boys/girls. I found it kinda challenging because the people from the other team is very skilled and very good to do some tricks.On Monday, I think I really did a great job because I won all of my games and I really did try my best even though I was very nervous in each game. 

Each of us get a chance to umpire the people who is playing. There was a tall chair aside the net and that purpose of that is for the people who need to umpire. The next day, when I woke up my body is hurting a lot it was normal because I did a lot of running and move a lot. What happen the next day it's like the same but this time I gave my 100% best and try not lose because I don't want to disappoint my team and our coach. 

After a long day the Mixed team won third place, the Hornby Boys team was draw with the other team, and our team won first place.I was really proud of myself and the whole team because they did their best and not giving up even though they kinda keep losing, they still put a smile and keep trying until the end.

Stomp Performance!!

Hi everyone, for our Music session we we're talking about stomp it was all about making beat but only using your feet, your hand or other objects. The first thing we did is we talk about what could we play in the classroom, after doing some brainstorming there's a lot of awesome ideas such as spoons, table,pens and other things. After that we watch some videos that show some people suing some object like bins, brooms and some sticks, we also watched a tutorial which helps us and gives us some ideas. When the videos was done our teacher tell us to be in a group of 4, so me and friends decided to work together. After that we talk about what are we going to use and what is our song, and we decided to pick "Roses" by Chainsmokers, we also decided to use pens and the tables. When we have done planning everything we practised it, it was quite hard for me because it hurt my hands and sometimes the pen slide of my hand. We also did it differently because one of my friends we're going  to sing while the 3 of us are still tapping the table or the ground using our feet..

After we have done practising a lot of times we have to perform it in front of everyone.
We wait for our turn so we watch our classmates performance, I have fun watching them because they all did a awesome job because they use different things which i found out very creative.
After waiting our teacher call our group, when we stand up I feel very nervous and kinda excited at the same time.
When we're performing we kinda did a mistake,when we're tapping the table our hands our shaking but we didn't show so we just continue tapping the table.
After all we did a great job even thought we did some mistakes, but I was really proud of my group because we did a awesome job, we finished performing even taught we are all nervous.

Visiting Music Suite

Hi everyone, in Week 7 on Thursday we visit the Music Suite for our music session.But first our teacher have to split us half in a groups, so me and my friends are going there in a second half of the period. When we're waiting we have to practise our stomp performance until the end of period 3. When it's time for us to have go and visit the music suite we have to bring a pencil or pen and nothing else. I had fun going in there because I saw a lot of different instrumental like Electric guitar, Acoustic guitar, drums, keyboard ( if you're using the keyboard you can have a chance and play the song Havana), piano, flute,ukulele and saxophone. If you're exploring the music suite you also have to answer the quiz with your partner  that Mrs. Beer gave, it's only all about which family instrumental those the instrument goes to and what can you see in the room that you're into because each room has different instrument in it. If you and your partner done every question you can give it to Mrs. Beer and she's going to check, and every correct answer you'll get 1 stamp so me and my friend got 8 stamp each. When you're done you can explore the music suite until the bell goes, I had a lot of fun exploring it even though I wasn't able to try some of the instrument but after all I learn a lot about the other instrument in the music suite.

25 Words Poetry Challenge!

Hi everyone,today we have done a challenge based on poetry. We talked about two different kinds of  poetry like slam poetry and 25 words. Slam poetry is when you create a poem that is based on yourself for example you made a poem to express yourself. 25 words is pretty simple because you get 25 words that are already given to you to make a poem.When making the poem you are not allowed to use any other word like Is or And you are only allowed to use the words that is given to you.I worked with a partner and her name is Rieya the words that were given to us we're Light, Ice Blue, Run, Fast, Past, Mountain and etc.

Story of the Trash!

Hi everyone, and today I'm going to share what we always did when it's Monday period 3, when we have done our morning tea we always come back to our form class and read this story that is called "Trash"and I think we start reading this last Term which is Term 2 , listening to the story was very fun but before we start reading this book we watch a video that is showing some people who is living in a dumpsite or they called "Smoky Mountain" that is full of rubbish and it also tell a story about a kid who is living in the dumpsite in his early age, and also show some country that is suffering because of their small places`1  and also suffering because of the bad smell of the dumpsite and more information. After we have done watching the video our teacher talk to us about what we think of the video how to feel about it, and how lucky we are to have a nice country and also lucky to have a house to lived in.

Information:
The Author of this book was Andy Mulligan which also known as the best writer of the young adult fiction. The story has 3 main characters and they are known as Rat or they called him Jun Jun (that only been for some of the chapters) is a smart, dirty,fast and very sneaky  but very friendly boy.Raphael is the boy who discover the money at the dumpsite, and the Gardo is like a big brother for Raphael because he was always there and help him when he have some problem. They lives in the dumpsite which they called the "Behala" they pick trash in there and always hoping that they can find something that they can sell.

 One day Raphael find a bag in the dumpsite and inside the bag there is a wallet and a uniform, etc. The wallet has 1,100 pesos in it. But in the morning the police visit the camp where Raphael and his aunt lived in, and the police went there because they're finding something really important that if people in the Behala find it they will receive a price, and the three kids found that they found something very mystery and important so they give it to Rat to hide it because Rat live in a hole that he always sneak into and they also know that the police man can't find it in there. But Rat recognise something inside the bag and he saw the key to locker at the train station, and he help the boys to go there and find the locker to open it and when they open it they saw a letter that is written by a man name "Jose Angelico", and I think some other things inside of it. They also meet Pia Dante the daughter of Jose Angelico that they taught was dead ( you can read this near to the last part of chapter).
 After they're long journey when they suffer and try to solve some problem together they all decided to buy a boat and they plan to spend the rest of their lives as a fisherman.

Ella West spending time with our School!

Hi everyone, yesterday was very exciting day for us because Ella West also known as the Austrilia author that visit our school to talk to all of the year 7/8 and also some year 9's student, and you know in her real life she was not known as Ella West because she her friend called her Karen Trebilcock. So yesterday she came to visit, so my friend Skyler had a go to go up to the stage to introduce Ella West.So at the assembly Ella West talk about her book which is called Night Vision and tell some interesting part of the text but she didn't tell what happen in the ending because she doesn't want to spoiled it and she want us to read it and understand it by our self,I also know that after the assembly we have a chance to hangout with Ella and asked her some question that we make on Friday afternoon, also the BH class decided to  make some question to ask Ella because their class also read the book Night Vision.

What she talk about:

In the Night Vision book she said that it was kinda based on a kid who has illness XP ( which also called Xeroderma Pigmentosum), she said that she get that idea when she watched the documentary about XP  disorder, well if you don't about this illness it's like you're not allowed to go outside and get hit by the sun or you'll get a malignant skin cancer which is very bad for you. So that's why the main character of the book was born with a condition that makes sunlight deadly for her. That's why the main character she only go outside at night and she would go out and walk through the pine trees, but she would take her Night Vision goggles and continue to walk and explore forest.

The Night Vision goggles she got that idea from the rescue helicopter drivers, she would use this to see at night, that's why using this night vision goggles is fun and easier to use because through the goggles it is seen as a very bright white light inside. Also why she had picked that illness for her character, it's because she want her character a bit isolated, and also XP means that you can't do some activities outside like what the other kids usually do also that's why they live in a farm cause there's no one and it's very peaceful.

The fun fact is that it was kinda based on her real life because her family lived in a farm and they also have some sheep, and also a dog named "Jim" and it was her first farm dog, she also said that her dog has two different colours eyes, one was blue and the other one was brown - I heard that if you have two different colours eyes you have Heterochromia.

Also her book "Night Vision" was translated to Italian word, and the book was called "L'arte Ingannevole gufo", the gufo means owl because she said that in the book there's a owl.

When she was writing a story she would try to write 1000 words each because her goal is to at least get 50,000 words in each book. Also I think one of her books has 50, 000 words and the other one only have 40,000 words.

She also talk about her first book called "Thieves", her book series and how bad the cover is. She also won some awards like "Louis Johnson New Writers'Bursary in 2006" and others. She also share the fact that she couldn't get to New Zealand top bookseller because her books was published in Australia even thought her book was set in New Zealand.

One of the student in our class ask her "If being an Author is her dream?", she said yes because she love reading books and writing. A student ask her if she had a backup career, and her answer was "Journalist", because she works at South land Times forming magazines.

She also tell that she was currently writing a book called "Sound of My Hearts", it was about a girl running and she can hear her heart beat beating fast. She didn't tell a lot  about her book, but she said that it will take 2 years to published.




Music - Create your own song

Hi everyone, for our music lesson we have to make our own song, and we started doing this stuff last Tuesday.The first thing that we did is we discuss how to make our song successful, so the first we did is we watch a video that show how to make a song and in that video it include how to write a chorus, verses and other stuff. After watching the video we look at some example of verses and chorus also the bridge of the song. So in our son we have to include at east have 2 verses and a chorus but there's a quiz if you are going to write the verse and the chorus it should at least have 4 lines long.Also our song need to tell a story or has the beginning idea and of course an ending and a conclusion, this song need to have a metaphors in it. That's our goal to make our song successful.

When I make a song I have my inspiration on it, and I think everyone need a inspiration to make a song.My inspiration for this song is my friendship with my sister.The meaning of this song that I wrote it's all about my sister leaving because she have to go to collage and I'm not ready to let go of her, also in this song I include some things like what gonna happen when it's time for her to leave the house and have to leave me. I also include some things how I'm very thankful to have her as my best friend.

It was really hard for me to think and to write a song cause I don't know if the song that I planned will work.That's why I try a lot of times of planning my song, which it also take a lot of time to finish.While I'm writing my song I remember something which help me to finish it, and it was all about thinking of your inspiration and writing it with all your heart.It really work because I finish it on time. It was really fun but quite difficulty to do.

Music Through The Decades

In our Music lesson we have been looking at the music decades which it all start last week, and the activity that we need to do is to make a presentation that will include the famous musician. Their popular song and the most popular genre in that decade, and also we only need to do 6 slides but I did 7 just for extra. I started at 1950's and finished it off to 2010's. My favourite decade that I did is the 2010's because it was "Lady Gaga" and in my research Katy Perry, was also famous in that time and some of the musicians that I know that is famous till now.I had fun doing this because I learn a lot of things and some of the famous musician famous songs.

Its Cool to Be Kind - Hornby Elderly Daycare Center

Every Wednesday of our C.I.P in our "Its Cool to be Kind" project the teacher always pick a portion amount of students to go and experience and have a chance to go to the Hornby Elderly Daycare Center. We also get to have a chance to talk to the old people in that center, Last week I got to have  chance to go there with my friends. But before we went there we had to get something that we would like to share with the elders so me and my friends tried to think of something that is very special to us.

My friends decided to bring their phones because they said that they have some picture of us, having fun together and I think they took that picture when we are going to watch a movie together at night.
 I think that's the most fun thing that we did together,  I brought a key chain that one of my closest friend gave to me. When we were just about to go I was surprised that we needed to walk because it was so close to our school,  the teacher that accompanied us had also gave us a talk.

She talked about how we needed to respect them since some of them don't have the best hearing and eye sight. Once we arrived their was already a senior there who arrived in a car and she was very kind to us, after that we went inside of the center and great the elders. After waiting it was time for us to go to the grandma's and talk to them and share what I brought with me and I was also with one of my friend because we have to sit with some elders to talk with, we play some games and get to know each other.

 It was really fun talking to them and sometimes I think about my grandma who passed away and also I was really close with elder people since when I was kid me and my grandma always play that's why I think that it was really easy to me to play along with them. I was really happy that I experience different things in this C.I.P and always having fun.

Music Biography

In our session for Music the first thing that we did is to do some fun quiz that is based on Instrumental we just have to look at the picture and listen to the Instrumental it was doing that because I get to learn other Instrumental that I don't even know. The Second thing that we did is we talk about Musician Biography and Band Biography but only if they are form New Zealand that's the topic that we are looking at for this session, after we have share our idea we did a activity that based on the Biography thingy. On that Biography it has included some question like Name, Birth Name, Favourite Song, Awards Won and Genre and etc, but that's just only for the Solo Artist because we have to to answer 2 paper that have some similar question but the differences is that if it's a band it will ask you the members of the group and the date formed. I pick Lorde and The Exponents band I pick them because when I was in the primary we already look at Lorde and I also know some of her song also the band. I had fun doing this activity because I learn a lot about them and it kinda help me to know more about the New Zealand bands or soloist.

Instrumental Music

Today for our Music lesson we are learning about different instrumental families like example the string family, orchestra,percussion, woodwind and the brass family,also the teacher show us the definition of the different families and also some videos of the different members of the family. After we have done watching the videos and learning the definition we have to make a presentation that will include the definition but only in our own words, that's why we need to listen to the teacher properly.
 Also at the last part of the slide there's a Music Biography thingy just like what we did last time it also included the name and challenges in their life. It was really fun hope you like it.

Maori - Hangi

Yesterday in our Maori class we make a presentation that show how to make hangi but the first thing that we did is we watch a video that show some Maori people how to make the hangi in real life, but if you are going to make the hangi as a presentation you can work with someone or you can work individual. So me and Skyler my friend decided to make the hangi presentation together, I have so much fun making it with Skyler because we work together pretty well that help us to finish it in time so I'm very proud of my group.

 If you are not sure what is hangi well is a traditional Maori style of cooking for them that has been used for hundreds of years but it's till use throughout New Zealand because making hangi is very spiritual for the Maori people and they are inspired by the nature and it was also link to Matariki because Maori people make it during Niu la ( New year ) and after they are all cooked they offered to the spirits,why because each kai ( food / fruits ) they thought that it was a gift form Tangaroa ( the god of the sea ) and the Tane Mahuta ( god of the forest ), and they only take some food from the land and the sea but before they took some food they always pray for thanking the nature.That's how Maori culture work if you are not really sure about it.

How to make Hangi?




Doing this activity was really fun because I learn a lot of things like how to make it step by step and why is it very important to Maori culture and some of the History of Hangi. If someone ask me if I would like to try it? I will say No because it will take a lot of time to cook like I have to wait for 3 to 4 hours and also it's because you will loose some patient waiting for it to cook and also there's a lot of step that you have to follow. But after all it was really fun.

Cool To be Kind - All Blacks Activity!

 For our Week 5 activity in our Cool to be kind project we are looking about " All Blacks " team if you don't know them they are the rugby team who compete to other countries and also represent the New Zealand. The first session that we did for this project we look and talk about what happen to "All Blacks" team and also the teacher ash what we know about them and what happen in the news, there's a lot of ideas that the other people know and share it to us and to the teacher.
 When we're done looking about it and talk about it we did a activity that is based on the topic, the teacher made us a template and in that template there's three things that you need to answer it your own words such us like " What you know about them" and other things, but if you are going to write something it need to have three categories that will help you work well and also you need to have 4 points for each box so you can go to and eat your morning tea. Doing this thing was really fun and it kinda help me to know more about "All Blacks ".

Instrumental Industries!

Today we have our first session of our Music and our teacher for this term was Mrs Hastie and our form teacher Mrs Allan- Fletcher, and we are also with the other class which is Whaea Jo class. I was really excited and happy to learn other things and I think that time that I was in a green/yellow zone ( I forget what is the meaning why they called it like that) , because every Monday we always have to be in a circle with the whole class and you can talk about how you feel about today and if we you a problem you can share it to the other people and they will give you some helpful feedback to make you feel great and also if you feel like your very unhappy you will be in a blue zone because the teacher said that if you are in a blue zone you don't like going to school or something, and yellow and red zone is also part of it and the meaning of those zone is like when you  feel very angry and upset of someone or something you are in the red zone but if you think you are in the  yellow zone that means that you are very excited of something because maybe there are activity that is going to happen in your school ,and I think that's why I taught that I was in the yellow/green zone.

  By the way the first thing that we did in out Music lesson we brainstorm some question about what is music, like what types of music do you like to listen to and other things, but the first thing that we did was to find a group and you can only have 4 people in your group so me and my friends that we can work together as a team, after that we answer those question and the teacher ask every group to tell or share their answer so that the teacher can put something on the slide so we can look what the other people think. After we have doing that discussion we watch some videos that show different types of music like the choir, orchestra,etc..
 For our the last period we talk about Ukulele like what do you think about the Ukulele, and also what do you know about the Ukulele such as where does it came from and some other things, and we also watch some group of people performing in the stage using the ukulele, we also look some other types of Ukulele like Soprano, Concert, Tenor, Baritone. We also look and talk about parts of the Ukulele those are the topics that we are kinda focusing on today first Hurumanu. Learning those discussion was really fun and we also get to do some activity like we have to think of the Title and one group say the " Instrumental Industries" and there are also some good ideas but most of the people pick this one which I think it's also good and when we have the title for this Hurumanu we design it in our own you can draw in your exercise book or you can use your Chromebook to design it but you can do whatever you want but it does need to be base on the topic that we just discuss like you can put like the eight note or single bar note but it your choice,we also have to put the Glossary for our Glossary we put the picture of the Ukulele and we also included the names of different parts of the Ukulele.

 I think for this session I have fun because I learn other things and I have fun doing some activities and other stuff and I can wait to learn more.

Hurumanu: Climate Change Issues

My Investigation

Aim: To look at how I can prevent climate change in the future.

1. Complete the activity 'Ecological Handprint'


2. Complete the activity 'Carbon Footprint'.


3. Write down your 10 changes to climate change below. Using ideas from the Ecological Hand print and Carbon Footprint list 10 changes that you can make to stop Climate change?

  1.   Try to eat more vegetable and not always eat meat.
  2.   Try to recycle and composting more and not always throw the waste in the garbage.
  3.   I should check the labels and try to buy healthy food because when I'm at the grocery store I just took stuff and didn't check were the food came from.
  4. I should try to talk to my parents about protecting the environment.
  5. I should try planting and growing vegetable or fruits instead of buying them in the store.
  6.  Maybe when I saw a rubbish laying on the ground I should pick them and throw them away.
  7.  I should take a shower quickly to save more water in the house.
  8.  I should try to unplug the things that I don't need to so I can save more energy. 
  9.   When we go to the shopping as the whole family I want to tell my parents think about it first before getting them.
  10.   instead of throwing my organics straight into the green bin i can put it in my garden.

It came from South Korea 
  • How many kilometers away did the food travel to get to you?
In my research it was 9,946 kilometers in New Zealand.
  • What are the main ingredients? 
  • You need Oil
  • A rice 
  • Peas,Carrots, Garlic/Ginger
  • Soy sauce, Chili paste
  • An Eggs 
  • Of course a jar of Kimchi 

  • How is the food packaged? 
Kimchi fried rice can find in a store but sometimes you can make it by yourself, and also I think that you can't put it on a package because you can easily make it at home, but I think in Korea they put it on a box and inside of the box there are different ingredients but I think there's no rice inside on it. 
  • What resources do you need to produce this food item (e.g. land, water, oil, food, etc.)? 
 The resources that you need was Oil, Water and Fire.

  • Would this item have been processed?
  • No because all of the ingredients for the kimchi fried rice can be added freshly. 

  • Is there anything unique or significant about the food item (e.g. fair-trade, local)? 
  • It was well know in Korea and other restaurant because it made primarily with kimchi and a rice and also some fresh vegetable, and I think it was popular dish in Korea because it can get along with other food and it will taste delicious when you eat it.
  • What else do you notice about this food that affects its climate friendliness? 
  •  Making this food you need some gas to boil, and also an egg to make it more delicious and fancy but after all I think it was climate- friendly.

  • Why?
Because most of the ingredients are organic and also most of the ingredients are vegetables but some of them are not like they use eggs or ham, and they also use fire and oil for the rice and vegetables.
